Orientation Planning


We invite Campus Partners to learn more about First Year Experience’s planning efforts for Orientation and utilize the resources for your own Orientation preparations.

Planning

  • In 2018-2019, the Reimagining University Advising & Coaching (RUAC) task force recommended the review and redesign of the FTIC Orientation program. Learn more here.
  • Each year we anticipate following the General Orientation Planning Timeline below:
January • Host Spring Orientation prior to start of Spring semester
• Host meetings with Campus Partners regarding Orientation changes and improvements (includes special populations)
• Prepare to open Orientation Registration System for Summer/Fall (coordinate with UCF Online & UCF Connect, communication materials, website, and finalize session capacities)
• Review/prepare Virtual Orientation for Summer/Fall
• Request content for Orientation publications (handbook, calendar, etc.); design for Orientation t-shirts
• Request classroom/lab and Student Union spaces for Summer/Fall Orientations
• Develop Summer/Fall Orientation Assessment instruments (partnership with OEAS)
• O-Team Retreat/Class
February • Distribute Summer/Fall Orientation schedule; begin coordinating with special populations/programs (Spanish-speaking, Honors, ACCESS, ASSA, Compass/Excel, etc.)
• Orientation Registration System for Summer/Fall opens
• Virtual Orientation available for Summer/Fall admits
• Compile Spring Orientation dates for review/approval
• Last meetings with Campus Partners regarding Orientation changes and improvements
• Request content for Orientation publications (handbook, calendar, etc.)
• Finalize Summer/Fall Orientation Assessment instruments
• O-Team Class
March • Summer/Fall Orientations (first Transfer may be at end of the month)
• Deadline for Transfer Orientation presentations from Campus Partners, presenter POCs, etc. (in time for first Transfer session)
• Orientation publications finalized and sent to print; Orientation t-shirts ordered
• O-Team Class and attends Southern Regional Orientation Workshop
• Prepare for O-Team May Training
April • Summer/Fall Orientations (Transfer)
• Deadline for FTIC Orientation presentations from Campus Partners, presenter POCs, etc. (end of month)
• O-Team Class
• Prepare for O-Team May Training
May • Summer/Fall Orientations (begin week before Memorial Day); includes hosting events, day-of logistics, dining numbers, updating publications/send to print
• O-Team May Training
June • Summer/Fall Orientations (Monday-Friday); includes hosting events, day-of logistics, dining numbers, updating publications/send to print
July • Summer/Fall Orientations (Monday-Friday); includes hosting events, day-of logistics, dining numbers, updating publications/send to print
